Come Share the Warmth

Safe Sanctuary

Our Mandate
As Christians, we are called to live according to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Jesus plainly taught that children are to be included and provided for within the community of faith.  God calls us to make our churches safe places, protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual and ritual abuse.  We need to take our responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all who come to worship.
The risk of abuse in any of its forms, sexual, physical, emotional, ritual or neglect, must be reduced by following guidelines for prevention.  Hayward United Methodist Church implemented guidelines in the summer of 2006 to reduce this risk.  This program is part of the Staff Parish Relations committee.  A program of application and background screening for employees and volunteers working with children, youth and vulnerable adults was initiated.  Guidelines for workers have been developed to assist in providing a safe environment.  A reporting system for allegations has been posted in the church.
We believe Hayward United Methodist Church is a community of faith - a safe haven and sanctuary - where children, youth and vulnerable adults can be confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal.  As such we will attempt to be responsible by reducing circumstances that could lead to harm or injury.
